Wedding of Joeson and Esther

My buddy Joeson just got married on Saturday and I had the honour of being one of his "brothers". I can never bring myself to refuse his invitation because to me its a very good opportunity to repay the favour for his care and concern during my BMT days. Without him, my BMT days would have been much more difficult least to say.

Off I went in Linus's car early Saturday morning to Joeson's place. That after I had a good 2 rounds of mahjong at his place. And yes, that after just merely 4hrs of sleep on Thursday night. Joeson's place was in Sembawang but I lost my way and ended up in Senoko before I enlisted the help of this wonderful invention called Street Directory. Of course I got to his place unscathed eventually. From then on, it was no rest all the way as we hurried about touching up some final stuffs before heading to Joeson's dearie's place to fetch her.

I could see Joeson's excitement as the convoy of a bridal car, together with 3 more cars made our way towards Yishun. As we blasted our horns when we entered the carpark to Esther's place, I can't help but wonder whether it would be soon before someone throws a rotten egg down at us. But its really fun I must say.

We brothers knew we would not have it easy before Joeson can actually fetch his beloved bride. In store for us, was a lovely concoction for bittergourd, lemon, chili padi, honey and a fake lizard served to us in a baby milk bottle. Joeson, though spared the concoction, had to be tied to a bicycle chain with a number lock while doing some silly pole dance. The sisters were really "garang" to say the least. Joeson even had to recite a "pledge" among all the other things he had to do. Of course a ang pow was also given to the sisters before they relented. It touched me lots when I saw Esther's daddy being close to tears as the couple bade their farewell to the parents. A moment like this, it really can't fail to touch anyone.

Headed back to Joeson's place after that and the couple had to serve tea to their elders. This is probably one of the only few times you appreciate having a smaller family. The ceremony was swiftly settled and we headed to the zoo for photo-taking. I must admit we had alot of fun there with the photo shoot and the constant grumbling of the hot weather. The brothers were in suit and that did not help one bit. After that, it was another shuttle between Joeson and Esther's places before we could finally take a breather at 1 plus. Half the day gone. And yes, no sleep for the past 30 plus hours.

Had the chance to drive home to bathe and take a brief respite before we get ourselves ready for the "big thing" in the evening. Joeson and Esther had invited 60 over tables of guests and its certainly a challenge ushering and making sure everything will be smooth sailing. The lack of sleep was certainly taking effect on me as we made our way from Joeson's place to Mount Faber Safra where the dinner will be held. Thank goodness I had Alvin besides me talking to me keeping me awake. Alot of preparation work were done within the 2-3hrs we had before the dinner commences. I could see Joeson getting more tense as the minute goes by. But credits to him, he maintained his composure as he ran around settling stuffs like the sequencing of events, the ushering, the last minute allocation of tables. I really wished I could have been much more of a help then.

Anyway, the dinner started around 8 plus, typical of chinese weddings in Singapore. The 7.30 stipulated on the wedding invite is just bullshit. Lol. Everything went very smoothly but we brothers and sisters had a surprise installed for the newly weds though. We made Joeson and Esther go through a series of tests before we allowed them on stage during their second march in. It really was much fun and I hoped it helped in any ways to make it a even more memorable evening for the couple.

The dinner finally ended close to 11 and that's really when all of us can finally sit down and look back at the day gone by. I would say there were no glitches whatsoever and it felt good knowing that we have done a good job for Joeson and Esther. Despite the fatigue, it was really a day I enjoyed alot watching my buddy progressing into another phase of his life. I also feel a need to mention that its being a real pleasure working together with the brothers and sisters as they were really fun to work and play with. Why not when we all have a common goal in mind. To make sure Joeson and Esther have a memorable wedding day that they can look back in years to come. Thanks for the wonderful time Alvin, Chin Poh, David, Junlong, Steven, Ken, Fanny, Sharon, Weili, Serene and Shujiao. Its been nice working and interacting with you all. :p

Wrapped up the long day by sending Esther's sisters back to Yishun before heading back to Linu's place to return him the car. On a last note, I kinda like the handling of a Corolla Altis after having the luxury of driving it for one whole day. Heh, maybe I might reconsider my option of getting a hatchback after all. :p
