~~ Instant Persuasion ~~

Penned by Laurie Puhn, Instant Persuasion is a book that I juz read and I found it to be quite interesting and useful. The book covers alot of communication errors that we commit in our everyday speech and relationship handling. Suffice to say, in it I realised that I am guilty of many of these errors as well. It made me realise the implications that could have resulted from some of my comments and actions in the past. Interesting read for me since I could find myself relating to the scenarios featured in most of the sections. That goes to tell you how guilty I am..lolz!!~

A total of 35 pointers, it would be ridiculous for me to cover all here...so I thought it would be better if I share those that are more significant to me.

1. Avoid Superficial Offers

Do not make an offer that you are not prepared to live up to. Always expect a person to say yes to an offer you make.

2. Right your wrongs

Do not say that you know something that you are not absolutely sure of. Admit the mistake if the situation warrants it.

3. Find factual solutions

Do not argue over issues which can be resolved by facts.

4. Hold your Tounge

Do not give unsolicited advices. Give advices only when you are asked for it or you get permission to give it.

5. Give a Final Answer

Its a blunder to assume that its not necessary to get back to someone with a final answer after you tell that person I'll try or maybe.

6. Accept criticisms

It s a blunder to become defensive and retaliate against a person who criticizes you.

7. Get a green light

If the conversation is going to be important, get the person's approval for his attention before starting. Ask if its a good time before engaging into the conversation.

8. Ask and you'll receive

Do not expect someone to offer you something that you want. Ask for it because its wrong to assume people knows what you want.

9. Earn your favours

Do not expect someone to do a favour for you when you have not maintained a consistent relationship with that person.

10. Don't cave under pressure

Its a blunder to cave under pressure and give someone a final answer before you are prepared to do so.

11. Keep it private

When someone tells you something personal, its not up to you to decide whether the information is confidential. Seek his/her confirmation whether he/she wants the information to be kept confidential.

12. Say what you Mean

When a person ask you a question about something that personally affects you, be sure to say what you mean or you risk being disappointed.

13. Avoid After-the-Fact comments

Do not offect negative after-the-fact comments about a person's choice if the decision is final and unalterable.

That's about all I gotta share. Go read up on the book if you are interested. Certainly not a waste of time..haha.

~~ Epitome of Bo-Liao displayed...haha! ~~

Had the honour of answering this bo-liao psychological test TWICE...so U all might wanna give it a shot and tell me your answers...

Imagine if you have 2 eggs. One raw and one boiled. You are given 4 places to place your eggs

1. On the TREE

2. In the WATER

3. In the MUD

4. In your POCKET

Which would you choose? You can place both eggs at the same place. Tell me your answers and I will let you know what the test is linked to and reveal the rationale behind it. :)

~~ Choc Bar besides the moon?? eeks!! ~~

One of the more interesting emails received today...thought it could be worth sharing. :)

This is your last opportunity to see this. The
next time around will not be in your lifetime!

MARS comes to within 34,649,589 miles of Earth and
will be (next to the moon) the brightest object in the
night sky.

Starting in August, Mars will look as large as the
full moon to the naked eye.

This month and next, Earth is catching up with Mars in
an encounter that will culminate in the closest
approach between the two planets in recorded history.

At the beginning of August it will rise in the east at
10p.m. and reach its azimuth at about 3 a.m.

By the end of August when Earth and Mars are closest,
Mars will rise at nightfall and reach its highest
point in the sky at 12:30a.m.

The encounter will culminate on August 27th when Mars
comes to within 34,649,589 miles of Earth and will be
(next to the moon) the brightest object in the night
sky.

That's pretty convenient to see something that no
human being has seen in recorded history. So, mark
your calendar at the beginning of August to see Mars
grow progressively brighter and brighter throughout
the month. And be sure to watch the sky on August
27th. It will look like the Earth has two moons!

The next time Mars may come this close is in 2287.

Due to the way Jupiter's gravity tugs on Mars and
perturbs its orbit, astronomers can only be certain
that Mars has not come this close to Earth in the Last
5,000 years, but it may be as long as 60,000 years
before it happens again.

Share this with your children and grandchildren. NO
ONE ALIVE TODAY WILL EVER SEE THIS AGAIN

P.S. Poor Sharon...haha...looks like u have to celebrate your bdae alone since everyone will be
caught up with mars-gazing...lolz!~

~~ Bangkok bound ~~

Hey....I need some opinions here. Planning for a trip to Bangkok in October. However, I have yet to decide on accomodation and transport yet. Anyone who has been there before care to give some comments on the hotels that you have stayed in over there? Stayed at Asia Hotel during my last trip. Generally ok...but just wanna try out some other hotels.

I am also deciding between budget airlines and the other commercial flights available. Seems like the price difference ain't that big...so anyone who have taken any of the budget airlines care to share ur experiences while onboard the budget airliners?

Comments are really welcome...thank you very much!~

~~ The amazing blogging scene...heh ~~

How dramatic can it get man...one of the most popular local bloggers Xiaxue has been hit by a hacker...losing all her past entries for the past few years in just a single night. My first reaction to this was...hey...I thought this type of despicable stuffs only happens in the corporate world sia...I am surprised.

I really wonder what she has done to deserve this...heh. Though not a real fan of hers, I am still peeved by the manner this particular hater of hers chose to exact revenge. In the first place, why am I even mentioning revenge eh...what has this girl done to him/her that warranted such responses. A blog is just like a diary to many...imagine having ur diary being stolen and in it contains your precious memories at specific moments of your life...if anyone were to do that to me...I really do not know how I will react. Perhaps many could argue that she was asking for it all along with her stinging remarks on issues or personnels and offended people along the way...but no way should anyone do this to another person...pure disregard of privacy and morals...what a sadistic world we are living in.

Its simply amazing to me that a blog online can generate so much attention and even cause a person to actually disregard his morals just to make his stand against it. How influential can blogging get man. Indeed, I find it amazing not only because of this particular incident but due to the many that found fame by simply typing away and posting it online. Just to name a few like Mr.Brown, Mr.Miyagi , KennySia. And of course Xiaxue. But fame is a double edged sword though. Look at what happened to Xiaxue...and also KennySia due to the SPG photo saga. Because of the fame they possess...the traffic flow of their sites comes up to thousands per day...Imagine thousand of people waiting to read what you gotta say everyday...amond these there are bound to be detractors who think otherwise of what they say...hence resulting in all these flaming we see.

However, let's not deny the perks they get from their publicised blogs as well. I am sure Xiaxue would be the first to agree she has found a niche for herself through her blogging. Getting endorsements....doubling as column writers...her blog have allowed her to achieve commerial returns from it. I have absolutely no problem with that. It certainly takes more than interest to convert your hobby into a career. I am impressed with the way she did it. And I am also convinced that alot of people are trying to emulate her model of success. Most failed though.

Kingmeng wrote in his blog that his site experienced a massive jump in visitors after his blog is linked to one of the famous bloggers mentioned above...heh...another example of the influence of blogs. I am not sure if its of coincidence or what...but for the past few days my blog have been experiencing higher traffic flow as well...though its not really significant. Kingmeng mentioned as well that with the higher traffic flow comes pressure to blog...simply because you know that whatever you write is being exposed to many who may not even know you at all...Is that a good thing after all?

To put it simply, my view on this matter is...if you are people like Xiaxue who sees a future in blogging...future meaning you are able to obtain returns that are more than satisfying your interest..go ahead and make it as well-known as possible. For me, I would rather my blog be kept simple and be read by people who are related to me....simple as that. I certainly do not like the idea of total strangers reading and commenting on what I say or do...heh...I would feel really weird...to make things worse...what if people hack into my blog and do all those nonsensical things to me??? HAha...I shudder to think... :pPp

~~ Project Superstar ~~

Just got the results of Project Superstar Revival Round on Channel U...I am so glad that my fave contestant Kelly got in. I would say she deserves it...the judges agreed unanimously....the public agreed by voting. In fact, I wonder why she is here in the revival round in the first place. But I am not complaining...at least it gave her fans another chance to see her performance...heh.

For their male counterparts, I have no complaints on the eventual qualifier...though I would have very much prefered the no.2 guy to have gone through. There were really not much between them to choose from. The other 2 in it with them...heh...did they even think they stand a chance at all...lolz!~ Pardon me for being outrageously biased...haha.

I have been an avid follower of this competition...since having enjoyed Singapore Idols last year. Expecting it to be something similar...I was to be slightly let down though. Somehow or rather, I feel that it pales in comparison to SI...be it in terms of publicity, contestants, packaging or appeal. It just lack that crucial x factor that makes a contest like this click. Still alot of room for improvement I must say...even though the entertainment value is still there. I will still watch it from here onwards to root for both Weilian...the visually handicapped guy...and heh...Kelly.. :p

Bye Durai....heh~

Finally, the NKF fiasco is about to come to a close with the resignation of T.T. Durai and the board of directors. I have been an avid follower of the events that unfolded. Inital impression was that Durai is certainly a scum who has siphoned money from the public...600k per annum...my goodness...money that came from the public with the aim to aid the needy...gross eh.

Sat down and thought about it for a long while...put things in perspective...I came to realise that it isn't exactly fair to dump all the blame upon Durai. I am sure my comments will draw alot of flak if I were to publish it in several internet forums which in the past few days have transformed into a Durai and NKF bashing site of sorts. But of course there are reasons behind my latest stand. I am not saying Durai should be allowed to receive a 12months bonus...that's ridiculous...and I don't think I even need to mention his gold plated tap and the personal fleet of cars he enjoys at his disposal.

All I am saying is...his $25000 salary is very much justified considering the effort that he has put in over the years. Look where he brought NKF to. $25000 for a CEO who manages a reserve base of over 200million is definitely acceptable within my understanding. You might wanna argue that its a charity organisation he is running and a pay check like that is obscene. But think about it again...he certainly did not run NKF the way other charities are being run at the moment. To put in that extra effort to run it like an enterprise so that NKF is built up much established then other charities is not something anyone would do if u r paid a paltry sum. To put it simply, U pay peanuts...u get monkeys.

I say give him credit when its due...he did a tremendous job building up NKF...he earned his paycheck...although I still think the bonus he received was way too much. But then the crux here should be the mis-management of funds and the misrepresentation by NKF. I certainly do not condone the way they managed their funds. How much of the donations are actually being used to aid the needy? All the unnecessary expenses are certainly not accounted for. These are areas he should be faulted at. But that's about all he should be blamed for. His paycheck is determined by the board of directors. And where are they now? I find it a shame that they did not even step out to make public their opinion and stand on the current situation. In some way or another, Durai, to me, is actually made a scapegoat in some way in all the events that unfolded. I am not absolving him from blame, he should be...for the way NKF is lacking in accountabilty..and all those misrepresented facts used during donation drives. All I am saying is that he should not be the only one being cast stones at.

Okie...Durai and the board of directors have since quitted. I wonder how that helps. I am waiting to see how the newly appointed CEO will go about undertaking his task at the helm of the largest charity in Singapore. Under public scrutiny and expected to receive a much smaller paycheck, I would love to see how he is going to keep himself motivated to spur NKF to newer heights. My guess is he would not last long anyway. The problem would definitely be solved if the new CEO is someone who is not motivated by monetary gains and yet possesses the drive to make NKF a success. Try finding someone like that in Singapore...chances are the odds are heavily stacked against it.

That's about all I got to say about this fiasco. I believe my views are abit alternative and definitely do not go down well with the general public. But this is my blog eh...I couldn't care less what others think...lolz. To sum it up, I believe Durai should be made to pay for his misdeeds but at the same time...he still deserve some credit for leading NKF to where it is today. I am sure he would be the last one to agree to the lawsuit had he realised the implications. All too late though..heh. A price to pay for underestimating the local print media and the lawyer panel led by Dhavinder Singh. A heavy price definitely.

~~Bon Voyage Haoming!~~

First...if Haoming is reading this...I apologise for not making it in time to send u off at the airport last evening....no thanks to work...haii. Hope u settle down over there quickly and get back to us on the new life u r experiencing away from home. : )

Having nowhere to go since i couldn't make it to the airport in time...went to Partyworld Shenton Way for ktv with Kelvin and Serena...had great fun there....been awhile I really enjoyed ktv...despite having only been to Crystalbelle the night before...haha. A farewell ktv for Haoming although he came among the latest...lolz!~ Not that it wasn't fun...just that ktv with Alan and Fred around is not only a ktv session...but a boozing session in disguise...haha. Got off the hook because we adjourned to play mahjong...haha. Phew!~

Anyway...after the Partyworld session last night...we went for supper in Bedok..incidentally...that was the first meal of the day for all 3 of us...haha. We spent almost 3hrs sitting at the coffeeshop sharing eeries stories and experiences...haha...goosebumps everywhere....lolz!~

Woke up at about 11 today...the first thing that hit me on the newspaper was the misfortune befalled upon the free-faller involved in the NDP rehearsal at Padang yesterday. His injuries seem rather serious even though doctors claimed that his condition is stable. I hope he will be alright. Having been involved in NDP last year, I understand that its a thankless task(despite the offs involved..haha) and for someone like a free-faller who is risking his live just to entertain the enthusastic crowd there...he certainly does not deserve to have any permanant damage left on him. Furthermore, a friend who was at the scene actually told me that the mishap might have occured because he lost control of his parachute initally and just threw himself away from the crowd for fear of landing right in the midst of the primary five kids seated there. Thus sustaining worse injuries. I sincerely hope that things will eventually turn out well for him.

Apart from that...it has really been a event-packed week to say the least. IOC Conference in Singapore...Thanks for making me wait close to 30mins for a cab in Raffles City on one of the evenings...credits to u. It was also decided by vote that 2012 Olympics hosting goes to London. Bomb from Al Qeada also headed there on the same day. More police and army patrol around public areas in Singapore...heh. Like it makes us feel safer by any bit. Edwin Koh's bag gonna be checked everyday from now onwards...change ur bag la.

Heading to chalet in the evening later...I dunno...but I think it might be quite boring...my family...my brother's gf family....and maybe some of her frens....I hope I would get to see a mahjong table there...hahaha!

I welcome the Glazers...

Another pure footballing post...so uninterested personnels...u have been warned...lolz!~

It sickens me to see so much news about ManU being bought over by the Glazer family recently. Upon reading this..I am sure there will be alot of people who will say stuffs like..."Yeah, to hell with the Glazers, bunch of money-grabbers" Heh...I agree on that...they are money grabbers...and if ManU did not have the potential for them to achieve a reasonable level of profit...they wouldn't have spent so much time and money on the acquisition. But I actually welcome them instead. They are the pro in sports teams management...see the current clubs and teams they have on hand...all good examples. I am very sure that they have a concise plan worked out to push ManU back into the driving seat in EPL again. Remember that they are in it for money...would they do anything detrimental to the performances of the team and result in a massive loss when they already have such huge debts to serve? For all we know, they might be the catalyst to revive ManU's declining performances in recent seasons. I am REALLY looking forward to that.

On the other hand, the people I am utterly disgusted with are those opportunists who tries to take advantage of the current situation to push themselves into the limelight. What Shareholders United....wat United FC of Manchester....all rubbish!! You do not profess your passion for the club and yet on the other hand do things to plot its downfall. Scums...Sir Bobby Charlton is a lifetime member of ManU....but did he lead any revolution that might have demeaning effects on the current situation...not at all....this is what a true fan should do. Stand by your team whatever happens...and not take advantage of the situation for your own benefit...They deserve to rot in hell man.

And to those ManU fans who are still under the influence of the mass propaganda with a hidden agenda...wake up fast. I am sure the Glazer family will only do ManU more good than harm. I am certain of it.

~~A Lifetime Bonding~~

Juz came back from town after having attended Carine's solemnisation at ROM this morning. Now she is officially known as Mrs Hew....haha...another Mrs within the ranks. Made my way down ard 9+ in the morning...was a tad too early since the time to meet was 10 actually. Gave me the opportunity to explore the place I have never been before. Within sight were alot of flustered yet blissful looking couples who were just minutes away from entering into a bond to last a lifetime.

Met up with peepz like Regine and Angeline not long after as they shared their experiences on their respective Big Day as well. Carine...the reason why we were there so early in the day was late....not again...hahaha!! She was looking her best today in a very nice gown with the more meticulous than usual make-up. And she didn't show any signs of nerves which I thought all soon to be married couples would. From then on, it was all the way a massive photo-taking session...btw...Carine's dad is a professional photographer...lolz!!! Only when the staff beckoned for the couple to move forward did it stop.

We were asked to proceed to the 2nd level where the solemnisation was to be held. It didn't take too long before the couple was asked into a solemnisation room to exchange their vows. ROM is efficient sia...haha. Then onwards, the couple were led by the J.P.(Justice Of Peace) through their matriomonial vows followed by the exchange of rings. I would have repeated the procedures step by step if I had a photographic memory...lolz!~ It is amazing how such a simple but solemn ceremony would actually be so meaningful. At least it touches me at that very moment. Happy for a friend who deserves her happiness..happy for a guy who got himself a good wife...heh~

The ceremony didn't take more than 10minutes...and after that it was photos galore again...haha..Carine's dad is back in action with his professional camera. From the lobby to the respective decors and to the park besides the building...no scenery or background was spared...haha...I think it must have been 1-2hrs after before we actually made our way for lunch. We were treated to a ala-carte buffet lunch at Crown Prince Hotel. Food was reasonably good. Had a good time chatting with fellow guests while enjoying the slow and relaxed lunch. We actually stayed till the restaurant was about to close to prepare for the evening crowd.

I must say it had been a good experience for me to be able to sit in and experience such a meaningful event unfold before my eyes. It is meaningful to me because I had witnessed for myself a good friend of mine taking her very first step towards a blissful life from today onwards. I am sure I speak for the rest of the group as well. : )

I am sure Mitsubishi did not sponsor Initial D!!!

Heh...judging by the numbers of Evos that crashed in the show...I think my assumption above is surely justified...wahahaha...Guys and gers...I dun care what U all think...but I think Initial D Roxxxx!!!!!!!~~~~~ To quote a term by a friend, its simply orgasmic...lolz!!~

For one who didn't really show too much interest in the comic and anime version of the very same show...I was certainly impressed by the actions in the movie. All the various drift techniques....the overtaking manouveres....U gotta see to believe...wooo~~ Not to mention the rev sound that accompanies all the actions...its totally beyond words...haha!!

The casting was up to standard as well...even a freshie like Jay did reasonably well too...save for the last part where he was supposed to cry....lolz!!~ So damn fake...but he being JAY deserves all the credit despite that minor glitch. The rest of the actors were very convincing as well...especially the 2 fathers...added so much comical sense to the movie... : ) . But the only one that really sux is the female lead...heh...I think she would look more at place in a japanese porn flick though...hahaha!!!

I just read the papers and realised that they are starting preparations for part 2....I can't wait for that man...more overtaking...more rev-ing....bring it on man...haha. I think these few months ahead are gonna be hectic for our dear Traffic Police....dunno how many "innocent" drivers will try to emulate what they saw in the movie....turning into a chicane at 150km/h....reving up to 11000rpm....haa....In case anyone do not know...U might have to get a 4WD race machine to start with....but before that...call me and buy some insurance first...haha...it will come in handy...

Tomorrow is THE BIG DAY for one of my poly buddies Carine. Getting herself hitched...hahaha...and i am on her invite list for her ROM...looking forward to that. : )
I realised times have changed. In the past, I would be occupied by so many birthdays celebrations around me but now it seems that I am attending more weddings and engagement ceremonies instead...this month alone...I will have the privilege to attend 2 wedding dinners and one registration ceremony...heh...I wonder if its me or izzit the rest? Wait for me!!!! lolz!!
