~~Phantom of The Opera~~

Caught the movie version of the famous Andrew Llyod Webber classic musical..The Phantom Of The Opera last night. Having attended the musical version of this classic in Singapore back years ago...I was relishing the opportunity to be able to watch it once again.

Watching the movie version was a totally different experience for me. To put it simply, watching the musical back then was just a form of appreciation of the music and their elaboration of the fine details in their costume, music and stage presence...At such a tender age then...guess no one can fault me for not being able to understand the whole story...However, the movie version presented me with an avenue to understand the Phantom story much better...a more effective way rather than to read the original text by Gaston LeRoux. I am not an avid reader of novels to begin with.

I enjoyed the movie thoroughly....every songs sang brought back fond memories of how I used to play the original soundtrack time after time when I was young. Though the casting of Gerard Butler and Emma Rossum as Phantom and Christine does pales in comparison to the original casting of Micheal Crawford and Sarah Brightman...this production leaves me with not much room to complain about. Since the opening of the musical in 1986...not many casting have been able to claim they did better than the original...maybe for the exception of Peter Karrie as Phantom whom if I am not mistaken, was the one who featured in the Singapore Tour...I remembered being really impressed back then...

The Phantom of The Opera remains to be my favourite musical of all time...but I guess I am not alone in saying that. Having the good fortune of being able to attend other musicals like Les Miserable, Cats and having heard the original soundtracks of some others like Miss Saigon and West Side Story, I feel that none has come close to bettering Phantom in terms of music and storyline. Every song and act in Phantom is a classic...Songs like Think Of Me, All I Ask Of You, Music of The Night captures the hearts and imagination of listeners with relative ease. Ask our dear SI finalist Slyvester Sim if you do not believe....lolz~~

To those who have not watched the movie yet, I really encourage you to do so soon. One of the movies not to be missed. Do it soon because I think the run is going to end in like a few days time. I am glad I actually made it in time to watch. Gotta thank Joey for that....hahaha....
